Back in 2005 i had all four wisdom teeth removed, a root canal and a temporary crown placed all at one sitting. I've been having problems with the tooth with the root canal ever since.
History of the tooth...
Back in 1995, I had a larger cavity filled in this tooth. Apparently it was too close to the nerve and it bothered me. My ortho drilled the material out and replaced the filling with some padding under it. Abour 1999 I cracked the filling and it was replaced again. In 2004, while pregnant, a small portion of the inside of the tooth became too thin and chipped off. Once I recovered from pregnancy, I was told I'd need a root canal and crown...but to do that I'd need my sleeper wisdom tooth removed to make it effective. I told them take them all out (as long as they gassed me up). Did the four hour procedure on novacaine only (they seemed to have forgotten my gas) and went home with the temporary crown.
When my permanent crown came in they fitted it and it was nearly 2 to 3 mm too tall. They shaved down alomost flat, to where they couldn't shave it anymore and said that should work. I've had to adjust my bite because of it.
Fast forward to yesterday. While eating lunch, it felt as though I was chewing on bone spars and went to the dentist. She said I needed to see an endodontist and that my root canal needed to be redone. I went to the endo today and she said that I have an abcess and went from treating it with meds, to another root canal to removing the tooth. I'm seriously confused and novaine makes me ill, so I'm reluctant to go forward. Even though she tried to strongarm me into doing this today, I bowed out because tomorrow is my wedding anniversary (this did not seem to be a big enough deal to her and she expressed her displeasure).
I have meds to get me through the weekend. and the root canal scheduled for Monday.
Can anyone give me any advice?
